What happens during your visit

Your appointment follows a clear sequence, with room to adjust the plan to your skin response.

  1. 1

    Pigment and redness review

We screen skin type, recent sun exposure and target areas before confirming whether IPL is appropriate.

  2. 2

    Light-based passes

Pulses of light are applied to the chosen area, with protective eyewear and comfort checks throughout.

  3. 3

    Brightening timeline

Pigment can darken before flaking away, so aftercare and SPF are part of the result.

How to prepare

A little planning keeps the visit comfortable and supports a more predictable treatment response.

One week before

  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and self-tanner.
  • Pause retinoids, AHAs, BHAs and exfoliants on the treatment area.
  • Avoid waxing, laser or aggressive facial treatments on the same area.

The day before

  • Use gentle skin care only and stay hydrated.
  • Avoid alcohol and excess caffeine if you flush easily.

Appointment day

  • Arrive with clean skin and no makeup, lotion or sunscreen on the area.
  • Tell us about medications, cold sores, recent sun and recent treatments.

Post treatment care

Follow these notes to protect the treated area and support a calm, comfortable recovery.

Immediately after

  • Mild redness, warmth or swelling can happen and usually settles quickly.
  • Avoid heat, saunas, hot showers and heavy exercise for 24 to 48 hours.

Days 2 to 7

  • Pigment may darken before it naturally sheds.
  • Do not scrub or pick. Keep skin moisturized and protected.

After day 7

  • Use daily SPF and avoid tanning to protect the result.
  • Plan follow-up sessions if a series is recommended.

IPL is skin-type dependent. A consultation helps confirm if Lumecca or another service is the safer path.
